Ok i have the kayak. An oceans trident 15 angler. I am starting to pick up equipment. Was able to pick up 3 reels off ebay today. A penn peer #209, a penn longbeach #65, and a cabelas depthmaster d-20ft. I paid $35 for the two penns shipped and i think $30 for the cabelas. In a couple weeks i will pick up a couple 7' mh rods for these. Still looking for a wet suit and a life jacket. I want to be ready august. I am going to fish inland and pasdle around some smaller coastal bays and get used to my kayak first before getting out to where the stripers are. That will give me a good chance to do a bunch of reentry drills. Im a little nervise about the whole ocean thing.. Lol..

sounds like you're going to be ready long before august. if money is tight it only takes one rod to catch a fish then get your lifejacket and wetsuit/dry gear. I'm imagining Maine is even colder than Mass, in which case you really should consider skipping the wetsuit and going to dry gear. If you already have chest waders all you need is a belt and a dry top and your'e good to go. this article pretty well spells out what's needed. http://www.newenglandkayakfishing.com/c ... thing.htmla few practice trips are definitely in order, but i think you'll be surprised at how quickly you feel comfortable on your yak, after that it's just a matter of picking out a calm day to get out on the ocean.

Thanks for the tip on the waders. I have a pair of 5m chest. I will check out dry tops. Ya i went a lil over on the reels. Bought the single cabelas before i saw the 2 penns. I will probably list the cabelas for sale and keep the penns.
