Humminbird transducer kit

Postby Trico22 » Mon Apr 30, 2012 12:11 pm

How many folks have used the humminbird transducer mounting kit with the grease? Has it worked for you? I was about to install mine this weekend, then saw a couple posts about it not staying in place and the grease being a pain to clean out. Anyone had these problems?

I've had 2 in one hull, first one didn't really adhere and left too much junk for me to put it back where I wanted it. Second one went behind but too close to my Mirage drive, so all I saw was my own flippers. Now I just stick it in a glob of stay put plumbers putty.

If you do decide to use it make sure it's somewhere the transducer will work well, and read the directions twice so the little holder actually gets permanently adhered.

Funny this post came up as I logged on to ask the same. Lot of time I rack my OK Trident Angler 13 upside down. My natural reaction is to say that the grease would warm up and leak all over the place while driving down the hiway ... not a situation I want to happen. I plan to install my new HB 385 before I head to NH from here in AZ on June 1 ... The kayak will be upside down and hull bottom exposed to the sun and heat all day driving cross country ... What do you guys think is the best solution for minimizing potential problems with 'melting' grease? Wait to install the transducer until I get to NH? Or is there a good substitute for the grease that will stay in place?

I've had it for two years as well with no issues at all and I transport my kayak upside down and sometimes leave it in the sun on top of the car for a while.

Finally mounted my new HB 385ci/di used duct seal and some waterproof tupperware to make a cleaner wet well. Works flawlessly shooting through the hull and man what a huge improvement over my old Eagle , now I just have to save up for a navionics chip and I am set to go !

I just mounted my new FF.

rolled up a ball of duct seal, pushed ducer into it and that was it.

The new ducer didn't fit the humminbird set up. The humminbird setup with grease works great and the grease will not leak. When I changed yaks, I substituted duct seal for the grease.

x3 on the duct seal. Stuff works great and is super cheap if you ever needed more. I first tried it out last year. They kayak pretty much stays upside down on the car for 80 percent of the year, no matter how hot it never let go. I've even pulled out my ducer to check for leaks and smooshed it right back into the same putty with no problems.

Navioinics cartography is very affordable. if you are fishing/kayaking inland lakes, check out the new $99 Marine & Lakes USA chart. http://www.navionics.com/marine_lakes/m ... sp?Lakes=1 Lakes. This also gives you 3 mile offshore data as well.

Are you putting the duct deal in any sort of holder, foam, plastic...or just pushing the duct seal with the ducer into the hull. What keeps the duct seal from coming undone?

When you open the duct seal you have to peal a protective piece from the underside. This is sticky. I usually open it, and split the bar in half, you really don't need a whole bar of the stuff.
Just put the sticky side down where ever you want it, then push the ducer down into it. You can build up a little on the sides if you want, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'll take a quick shot of mine later and throw it up.

Duct Seal is a too good to be true product. I did mine so I can do wet bath.
Used a 4 inch pvc coupler, I will just put a little water in it and not worry about.

I tried the goop and had crappy readings for a year. When I pulled it up, it wasn't even close

Best thing about the duct seal is if you are out and its not reading correctly you can pull it all up and redo it with no tools or anything else needed.

Duct seal all day every day.
You get it in the electrical section at any big box store
