NEKF is currently looking for potential candidates NEKF officers in 2011. We will be having an officer election at the 2010 NEKF Striper Shootout. Some officers and board members will be stepping down in 2011 or seeking other positions and we will require new people to step up and help run and organize NEKF. Keep reading to learn more about the requirements, responsibilities and how to submit yourself for NEKF positions by April 15.
The only official requirement to become an officer or board member is that you must be a current supporting member and a supporting member for at least 2 years. This means that you must be a YakPack member for 2009 and renew for 2010. Besides that, you must be able to commit for the 1 year term of service. We also request that all officers not be affiliated with any particular manufacturer or distributor in an official capacity. It is acceptable if you are a member of a fishing team or unpaid rep.
Obviously if you wish to become the treasurer you must be capable of maintaining financial records and producing financial statements. If you wish to become secretary you must have good organization skills and note taking skills for meetings. If you wish to become president you must be willing to put in the time, become the face of NEKF and make decisions that are in the best intereste of the organization.
All positions with NEKF are unpaid and volunteer only. You must commit to attend our 2 annual board meetings in April and November. You must commit to attend most NEKF events and be able to represent NEKF at trade shows. You must be able to work with the committee chairmen, other officers and board members to accomplish goals. Basically become part of the NEKF team. We make all decisions as a group.

The election will take place during the NEKF Striper Shootout weekend and results announced at the BBQ on Sunday.
Please read the NEKF By-Laws for descriptions of all NEKF positions and organization rules. There are 4 elected positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The other committee chairmen and board positions are chosen by the board of directors. If you are interested in running a committee or sitting on the board please also submit the form. We are not sure how many, if any board positions will be available in 2011 but would like to maintain a list of people interested sitting on the board. The board consists of the 4 officers, 4 committee chairs, and 2 additional board members.
Below is from our By-Laws highlighting all the elected positions:
The President shall preside at all membership meetings. He shall present at each annual meeting of the organization an annual report of the work of the organization. He shall appoint all committees, temporary or permanent. He shall see all books, reports and certificates required by law are properly kept or filed. He shall be one of the officers who may sign the checks or drafts of the organization. He shall have such powers as may be reasonably construed as belonging to the chief executive of any organization.
The Vice President shall in the event of the absence or inability of the President to exercise his office become acting president of the organization with all the rights, privileges and powers as if he had been the duly elected president. The Secretary shall keep the minutes and records of the organization in appropriate books. It shall be his duty to file any certificate required by any statute, federal or state. He shall give and serve all notices to members of this organization. He shall be the official custodian of the records and seal of this organization. He may be one of the officers required to sign the checks and drafts of the organization. He shall present to the membership at any meetings any communication addressed to him as Secretary of the organization. He shall submit to the Board of Directors any communications which shall be addressed to him as Secretary of the organization. He shall attend to all correspondence of the organization and shall exercise all duties incident to the office of Secretary. The Treasurer shall have the care and custody of all monies belonging to the organization and shall be solely responsible for such monies or securities of the organization. He shall cause to be deposited in a regular business bank or trust company a sum not exceeding $3000 and the balance of the funds of the organization shall be deposited in a savings bank except that the Board of Directors may cause such funds to be invested in such investments as shall be legal for a non-profit corporation in this state. He must be one of the officers who shall sign checks or drafts of the organization. No special fund may be set aside that shall make it unnecessary for the Treasurer to sign the checks issued upon it. He shall render at stated periods as the Board of Directors shall determine a written account of the finances of the organization and such report shall be physically affixed to the minutes of the Board of Directors of such meeting. He shall exercise all duties incident to the office of Treasurer.
NEKF Commitees:
Audit Committee - The audit and governance committee is responsible for monitoring the integrity of the financial statements, reviewing budgets and oversee "Inspectors of Election". The audit committee will consist of 1-2 auditors.
Shootout and Event Committee – The tournament and event committee is responsible for organizing, finding sponsors, securing location, securing insurance, ensuring all participants have paid, provided all paperwork and liability forms and planning of any other associated events with the annual Mass Bay Striper Shootout and other NEKF sanctioned events.
Membership committee – The membership committee is responsible for helping with fundraising from existing members, encouraging site members to donate to the site and become voting members and membership building activities such as trade shows.
Content and Web Site Committee- The content and web site committee is responsible for encouraging members to supply articles and other content for the web site. They will also be responsible for keeping the web site fresh and working with the webmaster to plan future growth. |
